A Still World

by Elise Leibowitz

A lot of my adult decisions are based on convenient parking. Bikes have more resting options than cars, you see. We get to finagle our small mass of metal and rubber into spaces that are designated for those creative enough to spy them first.

The side of a telephone pole? If your bike cable is long enough. Fingers crossed. Locked to a wooden fence? Perhaps not if there is a barking dog. Damn it. Is it raining? Then better keep your bike under a sealed and protective roof of some kind. Not a fan of rusty chains. No, thank you.

When we take the space to plan out where our vehicles will rest, in doing so we are hopefully securing peace of mind for ourselves. A path, an answer, a promise. Safety. And onto the next task we go.
